Performance Measurement and Improvement

George Miltenyi's work with Robert Kaplan (co-author of The Balance Scorecard) at Harvard Business School has been the launching pad for EMD's work in the field of KPIs and Balanced Scorecards. George (in Australia) and Robert (in USA) assisted Mobil Oil to introduce a series of Scorecards to translate strategy and measure organisational performance.

Performance Measurement is the cornerstone of translating organisational strategy into clear outcomes. These measures serve as a guidepost to all stakeholders in ensuring that the activities of the organistaion is centered around the strategy.

Performance measures exist at the individual, team, unit, division and at an organisational level. These various levels of performance measure need to be aligned to ensure that everybody is working towards the same outcomes.

These days it is rare that a company does not periodically review the performance of its staff, work teams, business units, senior managers and the Board.

It is recognised that the most effective performance management systems are based on a balanced set of Key Performance Measures (KPIs) flowing from the strategic or business plan. Performance management systems help to improve organisational performance, employee productivity, drive performance based remuneration, improve morale and assist with the retention of staff.

Our consultants assist clients to develop and then apply KPIs which are then utilised in organisational and/or individual Scorecards, in process improvement processes, benchmarking, the introduction of self-directed teams, performance based remuneration systems, enterprise bargaining and performance contracts.
